Wake County Human Services

In collaboration with SAFEchild of North Carolina (a non-profit agency that works with parents, families and caregivers to create nurturing environments for children free from abuse and neglect), Motheread, Inc. provides Parents Listening, Understanding and Sharing (PLUS) classes. Participation in these county-funded classes can be voluntary or by referrals from the court system or Wake County Human Services. In the 12-week course, parents learn topics that include child and brain development, effective listening, managing emotions, positive discipline, and parenting styles. Classes often use a children’s book to help stimulate discussion and improve the critical and creative thinking skills in the adult learners.
