In addition to coordinating national trainings, developing curricula, and working with affiliate offices, we also teach diverse student populations in numerous settings in Wake County, North Carolina, the home of our national office. Instead of simply teaching traditional reading and writing skills in isolation, Motheread has pioneered a new way to combine education with motivation. Our literacy classes use student strengths and hopes to make skills, as well as dreams, a reality. We serve parents and expectant parents, adults in early childcare settings, English language learners, aspiring citizens, basic skills students, individuals with developmental disabilities, incarcerated women, and families at risk for domestic violence. We also periodically offer workshops to parents in a variety of community locations.
Our work in Wake County is conducted through contracts and partnerships with a variety of institutions and organizations.
