Disconnected Students

“Why do I have to learn this?” “This doesn’t make sense!” “This is stupid!”  Students who struggle to learn in traditional classrooms often make comments like these.  Research shows that contextual teaching enhances student motivation and skill gains.

In order to implement programming, staff need to attend a 6-hour interactive Keeping It Real: Contextualized Instruction training that combines individual assignments, small group work, lecture, and discussion.

Training participants will learn how to

  • Link student goals to skill mastery
  • Learn principles for effective adult learning
  • Practice various strategies for classroom instruction
  • Use the elements of contextual teaching and learning to plan a lesson
